Government policy is increasingly focused on the benefits of using public transport as opposed to private car. Transport providers are responding by making transport systems, connections and interchanges readily accessible to everyone, including disabled and older passengers.
DBA has provided access consultancy services on a variety of transport projects ranging from new initiatives such as Crossrail to the upgrading of historic stations such as Kings Cross. Such work requires a holistic approach, ranging from the location of parking and taxi set-down to the detailed design of way finding and safety measures. DBA advises on the specific requirements relating to transport such as the Department for Transport’s Code of Practice Accessible Train Station Design For Disabled People (2011) as well as all other relevant guidance on best practice.
Work on transport facilities will usually have an impact on the surrounding public realm. This is a particular and relatively new area of expertise, DBA has published guidance on Urban Design with the British Standards Institute to address emerging expectations.
