It is a premise of Inclusive Design that it achieves its purpose unobstrusively. Our aim is that most visitors to a venue do not realise that the ease with which they entered the building, bought tickets and then enjoyed the exhibition or performance and café or bar was due in large part to the fact that the venue was designed to meet the needs of disabled people. The role of DBA is to assure clients that the appropriate standards for accessibility are met, including duties and obligations under the Equality Act (2010), relevant technical approvals such as Part M, and the expectations of funding agencies.
Many cultural facilities are located in listed buildings. By advising on creative and innovative solutions DBA seeks to balance the requirements of access legislation with the desire to respect the historic fabric. Our success in this specialised area has enabled us to develop an acknowledged reputation with approvals authorities at both local and national level.
