The Roundhouse
London

Architect: John McAslan + Partners

Client: The Roundhouse

Project completion: 2006

The Roundhouse, a historically renowned venue and a Grade II* listed building, reopened in June 2006 following a £30m redevelopment bringing the building back to life as a world class venue. The design team worked together through all stages of the redevelopment to ensure improved inclusive design throughout. The result is that all facilities are now fully accessible for visitors and staff.

Facilities beneath the famous auditorium include fully accessible, state of the art studios for young, locally based musicians and technicians, located in the vaulted undercroft of the original engine shed

A key success of the Roundhouse redevelopment was the collaboration between the access advisory group, access consultant and the design team. The project has won a number of awards including: London Planning Award 2013, Best Built Project 5 Years On; Civic Trust Access Award 2008; RIBA & English Heritage Special Award 2007; Europa Nostra Awards 2007, Cultural Heritage.
