Bletchley Park
Milton Keynes
Architect: Kennedy O’Callaghan Architects
Client: Bletchley Park Trust
Project completion: 2014
David Bonnett Associates (DBA) was appointed to carry out an access audit on the Bletchley Park Restoration project, as they wished to encourage disabled visitors.
DBA has been involved from the earliest stage of the project, advising on overall strategy and detailed design as well as ongoing management arrangements.
The restoration has been able to successfully maintain the character of an important national historical site, while also accommodating the needs of disabled people as both visitors and staff.
As the new point of entry for the site, the restoration of Block C is particularly noteworthy. Not only does the newly renovated building provide an inclusive means of accessing the previously inaccessible building, but by considering the principles of Inclusive Design the building also provides equal access to information for all visitors. Well designed, informative and easily accessible displays introduce visitors to the work carried out at Bletchley Park in a clear and accessible manner.
