A creative and often innovative approach is essential where historic buildings and their settings are open to the public. Achieving accessibility not only helps ensure these buildings have a viable future, but also enables them to welcome a wider audience. DBA has wide ranging experience of working on historic buildings and landscapes, liaising with English Heritage and other conservation authorities in resolving obstacles to accessibility. Involvement in the design process from the outset ensures that we can advise on feasible alternatives that respect the historic fabric while incorporating best practice principles​.

DBA recognises that for many nationally important buildings, full compliance with access requirements may not be possible, or desired. Where this is the case we investigate practical provisions that will not compromise the building fabric. This may include options for mitigating access difficulties by providing high quality and creative visitor information, or exploring managed support.
