Whether providing education in an historic Oxbridge college or an inner city primary school, governing bodies will seek reassurance that their establishment will meet statutory requirements as well as social expectations. Educational institutions are increasingly aware of accessibility issues in the light of changing policy and legislation. They are aware that their reputation, as well as popularity, will depend to some extent on their ability to provide equality of access. This applies not only to students but also to staff, parents and the visiting public.
Inclusive Design means that educational buildings will be accessible to all, with only minor adaptions required for those with specific needs. Where specialist provision is needed, for example in a school providing education for pupils with profound learning difficulties, DBA can assist in developing an overall strategy as well as the detailed design. However DBA's primary concern is to help ensure that mainstream education is available to all who can benefit from it.
